Ah District 5. The term “Beating Heart” can truly be applied to this District and it’s hardworking people. Everything we do from flicking a switch or the tapping of a few buttons is because of the cunning minds of 5’s citizens!
Since winning the Second Rebellion, the Capitol has since distanced itself from reliance on Five for its energy, instead tasking the power district with the providing of energy for Panem’s eastern region.
Following the Second Rebellion, the District was tightly cordoned off. The Peacekeepers deployed there are as rugged as the contingent you would find in a district such as 11. The Ancient-American city of Chicago (In which District Five was based around) was a target of Gideon Montresor’s Operation: KALEIDOSCOPE, the objective was to cripple the Rebel’s nuclear energy supply while shocking the populace into submission. The centuries old city was subject to carpet bombing, which induced the central power plant to meltdown. This resulted in countless deaths and the abandoning of the city and Five’s northeast corner.
Don’t reflect the actions of a few against the entire population, District 5 is a very placid district. Just like 3, politics is controlled solely by corporations and their greedy attempts to secure their interests. Like in District 3, the development of colleges and training programs has greatly benefited the people of this district. The correlation between the Three and Five has become more blurred, as both regions specialize in research and development for power and technology.
